a session involves
“So ... What exactly is it that you do?  What does a ‘session’ involve?”

Firstly, I am very aware that certain preconceived ideas or beliefs about what must be involved can scupper the best intentions.  Fear is generally behind any preconceived notions. Fear of the new and untried, fear of the possibility of pain, fear of your vulnerability being exposed, fear of ‘psychological stuff’, fear that sessions will go on for ever costing lots of money, and fear that nothing will change.

Well ... read on and I will try to allay any such fears.

A first session takes up about 90 minutes of your time whether the focus is upon Energy Psychology (EP) therapy or Past Life Regression (PLR) therapy. Subsequent sessions for PLR work remains around 90 minutes, whereas further EP sessions are usually confined to around 60 minutes in length.  The first session involving EP methods takes longer as there is about 30 to 40 minutes of explanatory chat on the nature of the Counselling for your Self approach.  Although there is inevitably time given at the start of any session for explorative conversation about an issue, the onus of a session is upon the ‘doing’ of EP methods such as EFT, or the PLR process.  (See Past Life Therapy for what is involved in this process.)

The primary EP practice done in session is Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT).  This is not only because this intervention method has shown to be highly efficient in treating a wide variety of ailments, but also because it can be easily learnt by the client for future self treatment.

EFT has been referred to as ‘acupuncture without the needles’. That is, it stimulates a number of acupressure points by tapping with the end of a finger rather than inserting any needles. Essentially, by tapping on acupressure points, the body’s electromagnetic energy fields are being invigorated.  This element begins a process of dissipating held emotional energy within the bio-electromagnetic energy system of the Self.  Some Eastern medicinal traditions would refer to this as ‘balancing’ the Qi (chi) energy of the body.  During this tapping process the client will be asked to repeat various statements that are commonly referred to as ‘affirmations’.  The statements are designed to focus the mind on the psychological factors (beliefs/habitual thought patterns) that are subconsciously involved in the maintenance of the issue in question, and then suggest alternative, more desirable, ways of thinking.

That is essentially what is involved in an EP session.  There is no pain involved, no side effects (very rarely slight sorenesses and light-headedness have been reported), no lengthy enquiry as to the psychological ‘reasons’ for the condition, and very often, no need for numerous sessions.

When early EP sessions appear to be making little progress with the issue (perhaps 30% of clients), a variety of remedial exercises may be employed ~ again very simple and painless procedures, such as ‘muscle-testing’.  The primary reason for an initial lack of progress is of a psychological nature.  Psychological Reversals’, ‘writings on my walls’, or ‘tail-enders’, as described in the EFT literature, are essentially errant beliefs (e.g., ‘I wouldn’t feel safe if this issue were to go’; ‘I am meant to suffer in this way for my sins’; or ‘I have no control over my body’) that need addressing before any real change can be established. Sometimes a great deal of energy has been invested in maintaining one or more of these psychological ‘provisos’ to healing and oftentimes they are subconsciously hidden. Discovering, fully revealing, dissipating the energy behind them, and generating more positive alternative beliefs where appropriate, are the items on the agenda of subsequent sessions. Indeed, Past Life Regression may be employed in a session to explore the possibility of other lifetimes affecting the current situation (see ‘Why Do Past Life Regression?). With the client equipped and willing to do some ‘homework’ for themselves, the number of one-to-one sessions should still be relatively few even if these psychological anomalies exist.

Fees:

A session that involves Energy Psychology techniques such as EFT costs £60.  An initial session is 90 minutes in duration, subsequent sessions are 60 minutes in length. This applies to whether the session is in person or on the telephone. Telephone connection fees are the responsibility of the client.  Any ‘materials’ given to the client are included in the session fee.

Many people need only one or two sessions to resolve their issue.  I would not expect to have to see someone for any more than 4 or 5 occasions in regard to any one issue, however severe it may be. The onus is to facilitate the client’s own ability to re-establish well-being, not to spend time and money in numerous sessions when the Counselling for your Self approach is clearly not benefiting the client.

Once the client is familiar with the EFT procedure and other exercises that may be employed they are empowered to treat themselves for a variety of issues that may occur in the future.  This is because EFT is a life-long tool that can be utilised for the treatment of many different issues.  Post session communications such as phone calls or emails to clarify matters or suggest particular approaches are not charged for.

A session that employs Past Life Regression Therapy costs £95.  The initial session is again around 90 minutes in duration, subsequent sessions around 75 to 90 minutes.  A written transcript outlining pertinent information and analysis is provided with each Past Life Regression session.

The client should be aware that there are no guarantees for achieving a ‘satisfactory’ regression. Should a session be unsatisfactory, in that the client is not regressed and there is little or no information produced, a fee of £60 is still payable for the session.
